TimeAttack.com.au Round 1 – Queensland Raceway Clubspec Challenge Victory & FWD Lap Record

On 26 February 2026, I competed in Round 1 of TimeAttack.com.au Round 1 at Queensland Raceway, entering the Clubspec Challenge category.

The result:

  • 🏆 1st Place – Clubspec Challenge
  • 55.228 seconds – Sprint Track
  • 🏁 57.8 seconds – New FWD Production Car Lap Record (Clubman layout)

While Clubman times do not contribute to championship points, the lap record stands as a benchmark for front-wheel-drive production cars at Queensland Raceway.

Queensland Raceway – Why It’s a True Driver’s Track

Located in Ipswich, Queensland, Queensland Raceway is one of Australia’s most honest circuits.

Known as “The Paperclip,” QR is flat and technical. It rewards:

  • Precision braking
  • Controlled weight transfer
  • Clean rotation
  • Strong traction on exit

There is nowhere to hide here. No elevation changes to save you. No extended high-speed aero sections to mask poor fundamentals.

Your braking, steering, and throttle discipline determine your lap time.

55.228 Seconds – Winning Clubspec Challenge on Sprint Track

The 55.228 lap on Sprint Track secured the class win in Clubspec Challenge.

At Queensland Raceway Sprint layout, time is made and lost in:

  • Turn 1 braking commitment
  • Mid-corner rotation control
  • Exit speed onto the main straight

This lap was built on:

  • Controlled trail braking
  • Progressive steering input
  • Maximising available grip without exceeding it
  • Clean throttle application

This is exactly why I teach braking and vision before racing lines in my Motorsport Driver Development coaching. Racing lines are useless if you can’t control entry speed and weight transfer.

Execution wins time attack.

57.8 Seconds – New FWD Production Car Lap Record (Clubman)

Later in the day, on the Clubman layout, I recorded a 57.8-second lap, setting a new front-wheel-drive production car lap record at Queensland Raceway.

Although Clubman laps do not count toward championship points in TimeAttack.com.au, the record is significant.

Front-wheel-drive production cars are often underestimated in Australian time attack competition. But when properly set up and driven correctly, they are extremely capable.

Key performance factors included:

  • Front tyre temperature management
  • Brake release timing
  • Rotation without overloading the outside front
  • Early but controlled drive off slower corners

The lap demonstrates what a well-prepared production platform can achieve with disciplined driving.

Clubspec Challenge – Where Driver Skill Matters Most

The Clubspec Challenge category within TimeAttack.com.au focuses on production-based vehicles with limited modification.

That means:

  • Mechanical grip matters more than aero
  • Driver input is critical
  • Setup precision is everything

There’s no 1000hp safety net here.

Winning this class reinforces that structured driver development and data-driven preparation outperform aggressive, inconsistent driving.

What This Means for Motorsport Driver Development

This result directly reflects the philosophy behind my coaching programs:

  • Master braking first
  • Understand weight transfer
  • Build rotation progressively
  • Apply throttle with intent, not panic

Many drivers chase lap time by copying racing lines. But lap records come from controlling entry speed and managing grip balance.

That’s what I focus on in my Motorsport Driver Development Coaching in Queensland.

The fundamentals don’t change whether you’re a beginner track day driver or competing in national-level time attack.

Strong Start to the 2026 TimeAttack.com.au Season

Opening the 2026 season with:

  • 🏆 1st in Clubspec Challenge
  • ⏱ 55.228 Sprint Track
  • 🏁 FWD production lap record on Clubman

positions us strongly moving forward in the championship.

But time attack is about consistency across rounds. Round 1 sets the tone — it doesn’t guarantee anything.

Preparation continues.
